Blueprints:
The feature list mentions "Ultrapolling", what’s that ?

Razerguy:
Because all other mice have been recognized as been 8-bit low input devices by windows you could never exceed the 125Hz polling rate. Some gamers where able to get DB up to 500 Hz by manipulating windows driver files. And we said that we can do this up to a 1000 hz via the firmware. The only thing as that when you go over 500Hz you have to give up a few things in the drivers maybe some buttons or OTF-Sensivity because of the limited USB bandwith. The 1000 Hz exceeds the load of USB. Maybe in some point in time we will be able to fix this via a firmware update, but right now if you run it at 1000 Hz you have to give up some features in the drivers. But most Pro-Gamers don´t use those extra buttons anyway.

Blueprints:
Bjoern, how many buttons do you use ?

Bjoern:
I personally only use the left right and the middle buttons. Most of the SK players only use three buttons. They have actually complained about the side buttons disturbing their game play. But I’ve heard that the Copperhead will have dummy buttons to prevent hitting the not used side buttons.

Razerguy:
We will add these dummy buttons in our Pro set. You can exchange the side buttons against none movable dummy buttons.
The other thing that makes this mouse special besides the memory is also the ability to flash the firmware - like you would flash your system bios. It makes the mouse less likely to become obsolete. Giving it a longer life. And gives us the ability to offer some upgarde as we find new solutions to opportunities like the Ultrapolling or supporting new video cards.

Blueprints:
Logitech released the G7. What’s your opinion about wireless gaming devices?

Razerguy:

Once you have 1000 Hz polling, 16 bit data path, 2000 dpi Laser device and everything included in the firmware you´re ready and poised then to move into wireless. To a final wireless solution. Until then, wireless doesn´t play for gaming. The next thing you have to worry about interference. Imagine 340 computers in one big room as I saw it at the QuakeCon. Interference from cellphones, microwave ovens, cameras. If you only gonna have it at home it´s one thing, but bringing it to a tournament is another.

God bless Logitech saying the are wanna be a wireless company but it proves to me that they really don´t listen to the gamers. F.e. the MX1000: you can´t flick that mouse. If you pick it up it turns off. From my grandmother research I still see 25 % of the gamers flicking their mouse. Bjoern what do you think about that ?

Bjoern:
The gamers I know have the problem that some of them just use the wrist to move, some of them use the forearm. For that you have to pick up the mouse. And some mice don’t respond correctly. And when you play fast games like Quake it’s totally unplayable.

Blueprints:
Some of our users already started to modify the Viper and the DB by rewiring the circuit board.

Razerguy:

You can lift up the Copperhead and it still tracks. My point was that when you lift up the MX1000, it turns off and when you put it back down and move it again, it takes about 45 msec of latency to get it started. They don’t listen to what gamers say. E.g. the fact that their laser mouse only had a maximum speed of 20 inch/sec where the Copperhead has 45 as a minimum. So back to the CP, all the solutions are in the firmware.

Blueprints:
You already mentioned the so called Pro Tools ?

Razerguy:
We know that gamers want to customize their mouse. Were gonna have an aftermarket product which is called Razer Pro Tools. The first kit will have an additional case f.e. a black carbon fibre.
It will come with a screw driver and extra feet with dummy buttons and 3 different weights.
Opening the Copperhead will void your warranty, but we know that people will do it anyway. So, we make the tools and leave it up to the customer to make the decision to customize or not.

Blueprints:
The first thing I do when I get a new Razer, is opening it up...

Razerguy:
So if you gonna do it, use our kit. You will have different lights , LEDs and much more. You will have two different types of extra feet, like our mouse pads offer we will have speed and control aftermarket feet. People can have fun matching their Copperhead to their computer case and express their own individuality.

Bjoern:
Will there be a girls edition two? Like a pink one ?

Razerguy:
Actually yes. Some casings will be clear only with a back painting so that people can airbrush and colour their own Copperhead. Not that the mouse looks bad they way it is, but people want to customize their own equipment.
