I see from review pictures that you can program all the buttons on the mouse except for right click, and left click (not like I'd like to anyway)

This is very good, but there's no way for me to see what options the mouse gives you for the reprogramming.
I hope there's everything that's in the Razer drivers (especially the advanced options, like next track, previous track, and macros)

I also notice, unfortunately, that the Tracking Control Unit option is either on, or off...I don't like this.
I thought it was going to be a manual setting, that would let you adjust it until you found the right lift off distance (ie 1.2mm)

I can't wait until I can get the mouse to try it out.

Living in the US means I'll have to wait a while though.

TCU is different from the first announces DCU (Distance Control Unit)

If anyone has the kone already, can you tell us how much lift-off distance there is while tracking? e.g. 1mm, 2mm, etc?

Well, my Kone has a lift off about 2 - 3mm without drivers. With drivers installed an calibrated with the TCU the lift off is about ca. 1,5-2mm. (Mousepad: Steelseries 5L)

Btw, the Kone has a very good performance at all, the driver works fine and give you very much options to "tune up" your mouse.

Thanks for the info.  I was hoping the Kone finally got rid of Lift-off problems, hopefully someone in the future will make a mouse with minimum lift-off, because I really want one like that. I'm going to try a kone when (if?) it comes to the US, but I was expecting better.

Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 has 1.2 mm lift off on virtually every surface.

Every pad I've tested it, at least a dozen pads...has had 1.2 mm lift off.
Never skipped on any pad except SteelSeries SX.

Every mouse skipped on that pad.

Huh, wow, the TCU is a pretty good thing!

Ive done a few more testing and can report the following: with activated TCU (you have to cailbrate when turning on the TCU in the Driver) the lift-off goes down to about ca. 1mm on my Steelseries 5L pad an the overall percormance of the mouse is noticabler better/different. It feels like it has a faster response on your movements with the mouse,
I have to do a lot of more tests even with different games, but until now it is really promising! Well done, Roccat!

You should do the CD test with the mouse, and as many pads as you can.

A CD is 1.2 mm in height...so you can use CD stacking to determine the lift off of the mouse.

1 CD is 1.2mm
2 CD is 2.4
3 CD is 3.6

Hopefully the mouse never tracks that high.

If the mouse doesn't track when it's on top of 1CD, then it's lift off is 1.2mm or less, which is ideal, perfect, great...

If it still tracks on 1 CD, but not on 2 CD's, then it's lift off 2.4mm
Good, but not great.

Test it on a cloth pad (they're pretty much all the same) and your 5L, and any other pads you can.

I look forward to trying a Kone as well.
I held off getting an Ikari Laser (the Optical version is awful) mouse since the Kone seems like it has the same shape.

Ok, here you got the good news: No Tracking on ONE CD! That means a great lift-off-distance. (tested on my steelseries 5L)
At the moment i have no chance to test cloth pads, but that may change.

Hope the "CD-Test" helps you a bit...

@PimpUigi

shape of the Kone is much more comparable with MX518/G5 than with Ikari and the Kone is about 15g (or more) heavier than Ikari

PS: 1,3-1,4 mm lift-off-distane with the Ikari Laser on an Everglide Titan

You sure about the shape?
The shape looks much more like the Ikari's

1.4 mm lift off with Ikari Laser is great, especially for laser on a cloth pad.
Much better than the DeathAdder does on that pad.

That is also great news about the SteelSeries 5L
Which 5L do you have??
The one with the design, or the new all black one?

Hi PimpUigi

I use the "old" 5L with the design on it (as you can see on the attached picture) I have done the calibration on the left side of the pad where it is mostly dark.
